There isn’t enough good news for vapers in Australia. Earlier in the month, the Australian Government announced a proposal from the Minister of Health that would have effectively banned the importation of any e-cigarette products containing nicotine. This move would have seen the sale of nicotine e-liquid into the country cease on July 1, 2020. But there was a lot of resistance to this proposal and now the government has announced that the ban is to be delayed for another six months, which means it’s now scheduled for January 1, 2021.

While an impending ban of nicotine e-cig imports for vapers in Australia is certainly nothing for Aussie vapers to celebrate over, the fact of the matter is that they were just days away from having their supply cut off. So while it might not seem like a win, it is. For now, Australians who use e-cigs with nicotine can continue to buy what they need from online vape shops that deliver to Australia. If the ban wasn’t postponed until the start of next year, Australian vapers relying on nicotine e-cigs to keep off the cigarettes would have been out of luck on July 1.

Prescription Nicotine For Australian E-Cig Users

The plan for the proposed ban wasn’t to cut off Australian vapers completely, although that may have been what happened due to the apparent difficulty in obtaining a prescription for nicotine e-cigs and getting it filled. The plan was, and apparently still is, to allow vapers who receive a prescription from a licensed doctor to obtain the nicotine vaping supplies that they need. But announcing the ban less than two weeks before it’s scheduled to start does not give Aussie vapers enough time to see their doctors and obtain a prescription, especially not in this slow-moving COVID-19 world that we’re all living in right now. At least now, in light of the ban’s delay, Australians will have some time to consult their physicians and see if they can obtain a prescription for nicotine e-cigs to help them quit smoking.

Cigarettes Are Big Money In Australia

As any adult Australian who has ever smoked can tell you, the cost of cigarettes in Australia is high. The high cost to consumers means big money for the Australian Government, as cigarette sales in Australia are taxed heavily. This amounts to billions of dollars that the government rakes in from taxing cigarettes. With vaping, many of the vaping products that are used in Australia are bought from overseas companies. As a result, the government misses out on money that they would otherwise be getting when Australians switch from smoking cigarettes to vaping e-liquid.

Vaping’s Future In Australia

VapeForest.com can’t say for sure what will happen next in Australia. Vapers there have been on a rollercoaster ride for some time now with rapidly changing laws and regulations. What vapers in Australia can do, though, is work together with advocacy groups and the government to make sure that their voices are heard and that their lives are considered when changes that impact them are made.
